… i tink therefore i am …
I don’t know if you have all seen the February Lady Sweater that everyone seems to be in love with, but it is a reworked adult size version of one of Elizabeth Zimmerman’s baby patterns which has always been so darn cute.  A very clever girl (oh no, not me) wrote the pattern and posted it on Ravelry and it seems to be on almost everybody’s wish list.

Sooooo, with kind permission from the lovely Pam Wynne, we are going to do a Wool and Company Knitalong of the February Lady Sweater.  Yippee do I hear you say?  And how does that work.  Well because it is summer and we are all hot and sticky and somewhat far flung we will do it very loosely (the knitalong, not the knitting) … and at our own pace.

First go and download the free pattern, (making sure it is Version 2.0), grab your size 8’s and rifle through your stash.  If nothing jumps up and screams that it is the perfect yarn for this project come on down to the store or order online from us because we will give you 15% off your February Lady Supplies!  And boy do we have supplies.  I am using Plymouth’s Tweed for mine, and others have chosen Dream in Color Classy, Jaeger Extra Fine Merino, Aurora 8,  Cascade 220, Malabrigo, Araucania Cotton, Blue Sky Alpaca Organic Cotton and the list goes on and on.  Then register with us and we will put you into the drawing for some yummy and wonderful goodies.  Then get your guage swatch done, (who me?… of course I did) and start your sweater.  Watch the blog and Ravelry for any hints, tips and tricks  that we have come up with or heard about from others to make your life easier.

Sometime in September or October we will have a February Festival and everyone can show off their fabulous Febs … easy as that.  Let me know if you have questions … and a very Happy February to you all.

Are you a ravelry member? If so, the above link should work … http://www.ravelry.com/download/6101/free. You may have to sign in to ravelry first. In the meantime, for non-ravelers I’ll check to see if we can make the pattern available outside of ravelry.

I am not a ravelry member - that was the problem. The flintknits link worked perfectly and I have the pattern. Nothing in my stash is quite right, so I’ll be stopping by the store this afternoon :)

    Hi,
Is it possible to up size the sweater a littl?

    Lesley Says:

Sharon, we could size it up for sure, either by using a slightly thicker yarn than suggested with larger needles, or by casting on more stitches and making it bigger that way. Let me know if you need more information and we can help you work it out

This is a great sweater! I’m putting the instructions in my To Do binder. I’m doing another KAL right now, or else I would join this one. But I’m definitely going to give it a try! Thanks for the pattern!!

I’m making the xl size. I’ve changed a few things. I needed more rows to get to the underarm so I did not do the eyelet row…the eyelet row for the xl wants me to increase 39 sts…by doing 8 more raglan rows I increased a total of 32 sts and got the added length that I wanted. I need to check my fit now, but if I need more sts I’ll just keep doing the raglan increases to fit.
On the next right side row, I’ll increase evenly to get to a number that is a multiple of 7 plus 20 (button bands)……
The other thing I’ve changed is that I don’t want to have the lace pattern begin right in the middle of my full bust(!)…so I will continue in garter stitch until I’m 2″ below the armhole, then I’ll begin my lace. I haven’t decided how this will affect my sleeves yet.
    ….this also means I’ve added a 4th buttonhole.

Laruie, I am wondering about your Lady sweater, how did the changes you made work out. I just found the pattern today and will probably need to make similar changes to make it work for me. I will be making it out of handspun that will be between worsted and bulky. tobewarm

I’ve run into a few glitches….I did my buttonholes 3 st from the edge and that seems to be pulling the front edge in, although blocking should take care of that. I’ve decided for the next one I would go in 4 sts…I also ended up with 5 buttonholes which got me to the end of the garter yoke.
Overall, I like the way the garter stitch goes 2 inches under the bust and that I didn’t do the pattern’s eyelet increase row.
I finished my eyelet lace body and started on my sleeve and have a problem. Like a lot of the comments I’ve read on Ravelry, my sleeves are too wide!….so for the last week, I’ve been contemplating what to do. I could rip out all of the body, get back to the armholes and rip up to a point that i could redo the body increases without doing sleeve increases…that would hurt…
or…I could go to the underarm area and cut it apart and rip up and fix the sleeve problem and then kitchener stitch the two parts together. I’ve done this before with scarves and it does work….that way I don’t lose the time involved with the lace.
…I’m also thinking that on the other sleeve, in the very first row in the round, I’ll decrease 7-10 sts evenly and knit a few inches and see how it looks.
So…..I’m going to try the sleeve thing tonite and see how it looks.
    I’ll let you know.
