Happy Thanksgiving

November 25, 2009 By: Neil Category: events, news

Everyone here at Wool and Company wishes you all The Very Best Thanksgiving. It has been a very hard year for many of our friends, family and customers, and we feel blessed to be able to be part of your lives in good times and bad. Whether you are hurriedly running around getting everything prepared for friends and family, or you are traveling across the country, or you are staying at home and knitting and reading and doing other things that you enjoy, we hope you are able to take a minute to look at around at your life and be thankful for it.

Come to the store on Sunday for a day of knitting, shopping and relaxation as we help you select, start, undo, or finish you projects for the holidays. We will have lots of ideas for quick and fun gifts, and some coupons to use on yarn, books and gifts to make your dollar go a little further, as well as a few little snacks in case you are not full enough already! Plus everything in our ‘Chicken Wire’ sale section is going to be another 50% off!

We have decorated for the season and have some wonderful gifts for you to give, and receive if you are good. There are lots of pressies for non knitters as well as knitters … snowflake jewelry, slipper socks, recycled sweater accessories, holiday tattoos and stickers, felted animals, bejewelled tape measures, fun pens, notebooks and all kinds of stocking stuffers. Nuss Knitalong – Lots of Progress

November 19, 2009 By: admin Category: news, projects

Nuss Knitalong Lots of Progress
The Nuss from Berroco – a basic cardigan with a gently flared shape. It has an easily memorized lace pattern that decorates the fluted bottom. Finished with crochet and a cluster of buttons.

Nuss Knitalong Lots of Progress

The Knitalong (KAL) participants are making great progress.  One of these folks has completed the knitting and is ready to put together the different pieces.  Can you guess who?

There was much discussion as to whether to block and sew, or to sew and block.  The decision was to sew and block using a “Wooly Board” – available in the store.

Nuss Knitalong Lots of Progress

Come and see our model it’s made in Blackstone Tweed Plum Island – a yarn for the discerning knitter! This super soft yarn has all the rustic appeal of a classic tweed yarn but with a high dose of mohair and angora. With wear these garments will develop a soft and fuzzy halo. A joy to wear and a pleasure to knit.

What is a Knitalong.

Scarves for Girls with Eating Disorders

November 16, 2009 By: Neil Category: news, projects

Scarves for Girls with Eating DisordersHello, my name is Kristina, and last year I organized a philanthropy project that incorporated knitting, the philanthropy was called Project Heartstrings. I am hoping that with your help I can successfully continue again this year.

Scarves for Girls with Eating DisordersThe goal of this project is to send hand knit scarves to girls aging 10-18 that will be spending their holiday in a Treatment Facility for Eating Disorders. These girls will be hundreds of miles away from home and their family and friends. I would love to send each of the girls in treatment during the holidays a handmade scarf to show each one of them how truly important they are!

I was a patient at this treatment center 2 years ago over the holidays, and mail-time is the best part of every day. If you would like to help make a warm, cozy scarf to send I would greatly appreciate it. The scarves can be dropped off at the Wool and Company store anytime from now until December 18th. Thank you for all your help!

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

First the Oh! So Good …

When I was over in England in September, I was lucky enough to get a ticket to a workshop in London conducted by Alice Starmore, yes THAT Alice Starmore. Because of a snafu with the organizers, one other girl and I were the only two in the room and lucky enough to spend the first 40 minutes of the class alone with her … the others couldn’t find the classroom!

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

What a gem of a lady she is. One of the eminently and innately intelligent, bright and energetic women that Scotland seems to be so good at breeding. She is interested in absolutely everything and only too happy to share her passions. I assumed knitting would be at the top of the list, but naturalist art, especially photographing the flora and fauna of her native land is way up there, as is taking her grandson out and about to look at bugs, plants and fish.

Yes, I did ask her to come and do a workshop over here, but she pretty much said her days of visiting America are over. But we have the next best thing. The class was on fair isle knitting to coincide with the relaunch of her wonderful Book of Fair Isle Knitting … and now we have the book in stock, waiting for your voyage of discovery with Alice.
