Tomorrow is the day … starting at 7am on Saturday January 14 … the crazy sale of the year for all yarn addicts.

  • 7:00am – 8:00am: 40% off regular almost all yarns 20% off almost everything else
  • 8:00am – 9:00am: 30% off regular almost all yarns 20% off almost everything else
  • 9:00am – Close: 20% off regular almost all yarns 20% off almost everything else

Take a Number for the Crazy Sale

We will be giving out numbers for the crazy sale to those in line between 7:00am and 9:00am so you can get the appropriate discount. If you have a number you can leave the line and return later if you so wish, but you must join the line between 7:00am and 9:00am to receive a number – one number per person.

Here are some tips and advice to help you get the most from this fun day.

The following items are excluded from the crazy sale:

  • All sales are final.
  • No returns or exchanges can be processed on the sale day.
  • There will be no StashCash points awarded on sale items (regularly priced items will receive points as usual).
  • No sale pricing on special orders or previously held items.
  • Sale is limited to items out on the sales floor

Some other tips

  • Safety First. When we open the doors at 7:00am we will admit as many people as we safely can. Then as people leave we will admit more.
  • Dress to be warm. We hope that you’ll be able to stay warm while waiting. You will need to leave your bags and bulky coats hats and bun-warmers in your car right before you come in to the store. We will have bags for you to collect a stash in.
  • Sale go-ers should enter at our front door on North Avenue and exit through the back onto the First Street Plaza.

Crazy Sale Getting the Most Out of the DayEven though we may have snow in the next couple of days, it looks as though it won’t be -40° or a sudden blizzard and the current forecast for Saturday at 9am is a brisk 10° F.

So what more could you ask? Yarn, decent weather, yarn, popping next door to McNally’s for brunch, yarn and more yarn … it sounds like a good day to me … a crazy sale.

Our reasons to be thankful …

  • Dear Fiber Fan, it is time for us all to be thankful ...that sheep never go on strike
  • that our UPS man is fit and healthy and knows our address
  • that when our yarn tangles, we have lots of patience or some sharp scissors close by
  • that our eyesight improves with a glass of red wine
  • that people like Meg Swanson and Amy Detjen keep writing books
  • that our staff have strong knees, good memories, excellent eyesight and nimble fingers
  • that we always have the choice between brussel sprouts and merino wool
  • that companies like Lantern Moon, Rowan, Malabrigo and Brown Sheep ship to Illinois
  • that you can knit and watch Love Actually at the same time
  • that wool doesn’t come from turkeys
  • that Ravelry was born
  • that our shopping bags are opaque
  • that needles come in lots of different sizes – it would be so hard if they didn’t
  • that teaching someone to knit is one of the best feelings in the whole wide world
  • that even your worst day gets better when you knit
  • that the size of our stash in no way correlates to the size of our hips
  • that we love every color of every yarn that we have in the store (and Lord knows we have a lot)
  • that so many wonderful knitters have gone before us to show us the way
  • that there is no limit on the amount of blue yarn one is allowed to purchase on any given day

and most importantly we are thankful that we have you, the best customers – you who have loyally supported us through the year.

We will be closed on Thursday for Thanksgiving Day, but will reopen at 10 am on Friday. We’re getting all dressed up for Christmas and have lots of fun new things in the store. Come and knit with us on Friday, in the morning, and then remember that the Holiday Lights will be switched on at 5pm and Santa will be ready for you to visit him in his little house on the 1st Street Plaza.

We’re ready for fall as new knitting yarn arrives

Were ready for fall as new knitting yarn arrives

Hi knitters, so much to tell you this week.   The fall arrivals of knitting yarn continue … one of the biggest is a huge shipment of Plymouth’s Galway.  We are going to use this as one of our staples for all those projects that need a reasonably priced yarn (compare to Cascade 220).  It is also feltable.  We used to carry it ages ago, and the color palette was pretty limited back then, but my how it’s grown.

Anyway, we have lots, loads and heaps, so if you need a sweaters worth, a throws worth, or a felted clog and a halfs worth, we have it.

We also have lots more colors of Plymouth’s wonderful Superwash Merino Worsted … this is proving to be one of my favorite yarns, especially now that it is available in Superwash Merino DK as well. We just love it.

We also love Mini Mochi from Crystal Palace … Chunky, and Plus.  It makes for a great shawl, socks or again, because it is a superwash, it’s great for baby things.

Absolutely Fabulous AbFab DarlingIt’s an AbFab weekend and Patsy and Edina are on the edge of their seats.

We have two very exciting (British) things to tell you about today, even though it is an American Holiday Weekend.

The first thing, September 5th to 11th is Wool Week and the Campaign for Wool is making a big splash in the UK. There are activities, celebrations and shows going on around the world.   Take a look at all the wonderful designers and companies who are making a stand for wool.

How exciting is it to have all these big names get behind the campaign, which is chaired by Prince Charles?  Sign up to support them and get their emails and let’s spread the word on the Fabulousity of Wool.

And speaking of fabulous, thing number two …

Not sure when it will air here but you can bet we will glued to the telly, Bolly in hand, when the award-winning Absolutely Fabulous returns to BBC America later this year to celebrate its 20th anniversary.
