Open Knitting

also known as Knitting with Company

Friday mornings at 10:30 am, Friday evenings at 7:00 pm and Sunday afternoons at 3:30 pm, knitters from around the western suburbs gather at the store to meet old friends, make new friends, share projects, give and receive advice, show projects … there’s plenty of therapy … and we even get some knitting and crochet done!

Can’t make it – you can share a little of the mood by listening in here …

  • A Very Beginner Knitter

What is the best “non-scarf-or-potholder-or-thing-related-in-any-way” pattern you would reccomend (sp?) to a “very beginner knitter”? I am about to finish my first scarf (yay!!) and don’t have a clue what to do next. (I mean, all I know how to do is your Joe-average garter stitch. I need a REALLY easy pattern.)

    • Shawna

You might try a sweater called the wallaby (sp?)  It is super simple and in the end you will have a great hooded sweater!  You should be able to find the pattern at any yarn shop.

I need help with a knitted man’s vest.   After I completed it (and after I sized down two needle sizes) it’s together but too big.  If I bring it in can someone fix this for me?   I have basted in the side seams….   Please let me know, seems I can’t knit anything for anyone, because everything turns out waaaay too big.   I’m stuck with afgans and scarfs!!!

Pat, bring it in for advice. We don’t do repairs or fixing as a rule, but
we’re always happy to share our experiences.

  • Christina Wascher

No open crochet? I don’t knit and it seems that all the yarn shops around here really cater to knitters and crocheters are the forgotten step-child.

Sure we crochet too … and crocheters are most welcome to our open
sessions (and do indeed come). We have a significant crochet section at the
store with materials, books, accessories and patterns and we offer frequent
crochet classes. We would love to see an increased demand for
      crochet-themed activity.
