Yarn Auction
Current auction items are list in the right hand column.
Our yarn auction gives you the chance to get the best quality hand knitting yarns at bargain prices. The yarn auction is a section of our clearance area and is also called the “Chicken Wire”. Are you curious as to why? Come visit the store and we’ll show you.
Can’t make it to the store? Don’t fret, we’ve created the online Yarn Auction, also known as Chicken Wire Auction where we’ll feature selected items from our clearance area.
You can bid on these items and, if you win, we’ll ship them to you. You can also pick up the yarn auction items at the store if you’d like to save on shipping costs.
How does the bidding work?
We have placed an auction for a bag of yarn in the Chicken Wire Yarn Auction, we have set a reserve / starting bid of $5.
Click the ‘Bid Here’ tab. If you haven’t already registered you will be prompted to do so. This is required to prevent ‘phony’ bidders. You will see a bid screen that also tells you when the auction will end.
You want to bid on it, and decide that you will pay a maximum of $25 for the bag. So you fill in the boxes – name, email and URL (optional) and enter $25 as your bid. We will set the current bid to be $5.
Now along comes someone else (let’s call her the Yarn Harlot) and bids a maximum of $15. But since you already bid a maximum of $25 you are protected to win until some outbids that maximum.
However this also means that your current bid will rise to $15.10 to meet and beat the Yarn Harlot’s maximum bid.
The Yarn Harlot decides to to raise her bid to $30. Now she has outbid you and is the winning bidder. But her current bid in this yarn auction will be set to just beat the previous maximum bid set by you, which was $25. So her current bid is $25.10 … until someone decides to outbid her.
You will get an email saying that you have been outbid. And you can decide to raise your bid, or not. If you don’t raise your bid then the Yarn Harlot will only pay $25.10 for the yarn, unless someone outbids her before the auction ends.
If two people place the same bid then the first person to place the bid will have the winner’s position. In the end, we will sell the bag of to the current highest bidder in this yarn auction (and not the maximum bid). Remember all bids are binding.
How can I find out if I’m winning a yarn auction?
If you are on the bidding page, simply click the ‘Bids’ tab in the window. If you are winning your name and current bid will be displayed on top.
