Good Afternoon Wool and Company Customers:

I am dropping you a quick note to let you know that we received your donation of 86 Helmetliners, 39 Neck Gators and 38 Stocking Caps on July 16, 2010. This brings your year to date total to 419 Helmetliners, 13 Scarves, 153 Neck Gators, 25 Cards, 1 Cardigan and 52 Stocking Caps.

We appreciate your generosity because without volunteers like you this wouldn’t be possible.

We are starting the “Moxie” on April, 8, 2010. We are very excited to get this cute cardi underway. Many of us have just finished an Eyelet Cardigan that was in a very fine gauge. Our fingers are itching to knit something that may go quicker. The Moxi is topdown, seamless, 3/4 sleeves, in a worsted weight yarn with a one button closure. Many of us are using the Berroco Blackstone Tweed yarn. The pattern was written for this yarn, but some people are venturing away from this yarn. It is always exciting to watch the sweaters unfold.

Jen (ravelry: djenn) came by on Thursday to buy some Cascade 220 in navy. It wasn’t until she was checking out that I noticed the hat …. duuhhh!

So this had to be one of the quickest re-makes of that fabulous hat that is being worn by the US Olympic Team.

You Helped Raise $26,000 to Heal Haiti

Thank you for your support of our appeal to Help Heal Haiti. We have closed our current fund raising and we just wanted to let you know that as a result of your generosity we were able to raise $13,066!

We have forwarded all this money to our partner Knitting Fever who will write a matching check to double the total to $26,132.

One month after the devastating earthquake, the emergency medical aid organisation Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders continues to work diligently to respond to the needs of the Haitian people, and your contributions will help to fund that effort.

If you’re like us your heart is breaking as you watch the reports of the death and devastation that the earthquake has brought to Haiti. One of the poorest countries in the Americas, where people live on less than $2 day, has been hit by another natural disaster.

The American Red Cross is estimating a death toll in excess of 40,000, and the lack of the most basic resources will make that toll rise if help is not immediate.

So here’s a way to help by donating to Doctors without Borders (Médecins Sans Frontières) and in return you gain free access to download the knitting patterns pictured below. For every dollar we raise one of our vendors will be matching (up to a maximum of $50,000). Knitting Fever, who supply us with some of your favorite yarns, including Noro, Louisa Harding and Sirdar have committed to making the match. Now that’s awesome – let’s see if we can max out that offer!

Doctors without Borders work to provide medical aid in crisis situations – including natural disasters such as the Haiti earthquake. The Haiti disaster needs a rapid response with the specialized medical and logistical help that Doctors without Borders can provide.

You know how much you pay for patterns, so be generous and get some great designs in return. All these have been donated by the designers, and all proceeds go directly to Doctors without Borders.

Nuss Knitalong – Lots of Progress

The Nuss from Berroco – a basic cardigan with a gently flared shape. It has an easily memorized lace pattern that decorates the fluted bottom. Finished with crochet and a cluster of buttons.

The Knitalong (KAL) participants are making great progress. One of these folks has completed the knitting and is ready to put together the different pieces. Can you guess who?

There was much discussion as to whether to block and sew, or to sew and block. The decision was to sew and block using a “Wooly Board” – available in the store.

Come and see our model it’s made in Blackstone Tweed Plum Island – a yarn for the discerning knitter! This super soft yarn has all the rustic appeal of a classic tweed yarn but with a high dose of mohair and angora. With wear these garments will develop a soft and fuzzy halo. A joy to wear and a pleasure to knit.
