Wool and Company Knitting and Crochet

We are located in downtown Saint Charles, Illinois. We are a full service knitting and crochet store. Our mission is to spread our love of knitting in a fun, creative and informative way. Cast Ons (Easy)

You'll learn lots of different cast-ons. Bring needles and yarn. Sunday 2/19, 12:00 - 1:00

Bind Offs (Easy)

You'll learn lots of different bind-offs. Bring needles and yarn. Sunday 2/19, 1:30 - 2:30

Increases (Easy)

Increases : a number of different ways for each and why you might want to chose one over another. Homework: Cast on 10 stitches and work 1 inch in stockinette stitch. Bring on needles. Sunday 2/26, 12:00 - 1:00

Decreases (Easy)

Decreases : a number of different ways for each and why you might want to chose one over another. Homework: Cast on 10 stitches and work 1 inch in stockinette stitch. Bring on needles. Sunday 2/26, 1:30 - 2:30

Seaming (Easy)

Finishing/Seaming: Homework: For each of the following 6 swatches, cast on 22 stitches and work for about 3". Make two matching stockinette swatches, two matching garter swatches, and two matching ribbed swatches with k2 p2 ribbing. Bind off and bring to class with extra yarn and a sewing up needle. Sunday 3/4, 12:00 - 1:00

Blocking (Easy)

Homework (optional): Bring something that needs blocking (wool or other natural fiber, not acrylic) or knit a little swatch, lace preferred, out of wool or other natural fiber, not acrylic. Sunday 3/4, 1:30 - 2:30

Knitting with Beads: Prestrung (Intermediate)

Whether you are adding 20 or 200 beads, with this method the beads are there waiting when you are ready to add them. Please bring some lightweight yarn (fingering or lace would be perfect) and appropriate sized needles. Beads and beading needles will be available to use. Saturday 3/17, 12:00 - 1:00

Knitting with Beads: Crocheted (Intermediate)

This method of adding beads does not require pre-stringing. Please knit a swatch with fingering or lace weight yarn as follows: Cast on 20 stitches. Knit 1 inch of stockinette stitch (knit 1 row, purl 1 row, repeat for about one inch. Stop having completed a purl row and bring the swatch still on the needles.) Crochet hooks and beads will be provided for you to use. Saturday 3/17, 1:30 - 2:30

I-CORD (Easy)

I-cord has dozens of uses. Use it in your knitting as surface embellishment, as a tie, as edging - your imagination is the limit. Learn how to make I-Cord and some of its uses. Bring double point needles and yarn to match. Sunday 3/18, 12:00 - 1:00

Cables (Intermediate)

Learn some basic cabling techniques and find your comfort level when dealing with cabled projects. Sunday 3/18, 1:30 - 2:30

2-Color: Stripes (Easy)

Learn several techniques for striping your knitted projects. Topics include jogless stripes in the round, carrying yarn up the sides, etc. Bring two colors worsted weight yarn and appropriate straight and circular needles. Sunday 3/25, 12:00 - 1:00

2-Color: Mosaic (Easy)

This form of colorwork requires no stranding, no bobbin, and no changing of colors in the middle of the row. Work from a chart to create a two-color swatch. Bring two contrasting colors of worsted weight yarn and appropriate needles. Sunday 3/25, 1:30 - 2:30

Double Knitting (Intermediate)

Learn to knit 2 layers at once. Great for warm hats, reversible designs, and a challenge for your knitting brain. Bring 2 colors of yarn that are the same weight, preferably worsted or DK, and appropriate size knitting needles of any kind. Saturday 3/31, 12:00 - 1:00

Duplicate Stitch (Easy)

Duplicate stitch: Homework: Make a stockinette stitch swatch about 6" x 6" and bind off. Bring same weight yarn in a contrasting color and a sewing up needle. Saturday 3/31, 1:30 - 2:30

Charts (Easy)

Intro to charts. Homework: Cast on 20 stitches and work 8 rows garter stitch and 8 rows stockinette stitch. Bring on needles. Bring some contrasting yarn of same weight. Saturday 4/7, 12:00 - 1:00

Kitchener (Easy)

Master the art of kitchener stitch! This is a seaming technique most often seen in the toes of socks but also has many other uses. Homework: Cast on 30 stitches and work in stockinette for about 3". Do not bind off. Make two. Bring to class along with a sewing up needle and yarn of a different color than swatches. Saturday 4/7, 1:30 - 2:30

Magic Loop (Intermediate)

A great technique for getting the most out of your circular needles. With this technique you can replace the need to have several sizes of circular and double pointed needles for different projects from hats to sweaters. Sunday 4/15, 12:00 - 1:00

Magic Loop 2-at-a-time (Intermediate)

Use the Magic Loop method of knitting to make two socks at the same time. Kill the second sock syndrome. Sunday 4/15, 1:30 - 2:30

Short Rows (Intermediate)

Learn the mystery of adding dimension, extra volume, or shaping to your knitting. You will learn how to knit short rows and what “wrap and turn” means. Please knit a swatch with light colored worsted or DK weight yarn as follows: Cast on 20 stitches. Knit about an inch of stockinette stitch (knit 1 row, purl 1 row, repeat) stopping after you have completed a purl row. Bring the swatch still on the needles. Saturday 4/21, 12:00 - 1:00

Fixing Common Mistakes (Easy)

Dropped stitches, twisted stitches, lengthening, shortening, gauge, tinking… We will teach you some techniques to fix common knitting problems that stop short of you having to rip the whole project out. And we will give you some pointers to help you rip out if you absolutely have to. Saturday 4/21, 1:30 - 2:30

Edges and Hems (Intermediate)

Edging/Hemming: knitted hems, picot edging for nice bottom or side edges. Homework: Piece 1: Cast on 20 stitches and work 1 inch of stockinette stitch and bring on needles. Piece 2: Cast on 20 stitches and work 1 inch of garter stitch and bring on needles. Sunday 4/22, 12:00 - 1:00

Button holes (Easy)

Learn a few techniques to create buttonholes in knitted garments and tips on where to place them. Sunday 4/22, 1:30 - 2:30

2-Color: Intarsia (Intermediate)

Intarsia is a color technique in which blocks of color are worked with separate yarn. Work from a chart to create a two-color swatch. Bring three colors of worsted weight yarn and appropriate needles. Sunday 4/29, 12:00 - 1:00

2-Color: Fair Isle (Intermediate)

Fair Isle or stranded knitting looks complicated, but never uses more than two colors in each row. Bring three colors of worsted weight yarn and appropiate needles. Sunday 4/29, 1:30 - 2:30
