Feature Pattern of the Week - Escherite Cowl

Escherite Cowl by Erin Kurup,
Madelinetosh Tosh Sock OR Tosh DK

Inspired by the mind-bending staircases the artist M.C. Escher is renowned for, knit designer Erin Kurup has created the Escherite Cowl pattern. We love this simple to style & wear, top-down knit. The cowl has the look of a triangle shawl with the ease of a cowl.

Knit in the round, Escherite incorporates paired increases along a center spine to create a cowl with a front point like that of a triangular shawl. The classic lace pattern is created with straightforward yarnovers, single & double decreases. Designed with a four-stitch, eight-round repeat makes the pattern simple to modify if desired.

This versatile pattern includes knitting instructions for a fingering weight version or a DK weight version. Erin designed & knit her cowl with Madelinetosh Tosh Sock (fingering version) & Madelinetosh Tosh DK (DK version).

Both of the yarns are spun from 100% Merino wool & hand-dyed in Texas. Madelinetosh is know for their incredible collection of hundreds of colorways from speckles & tonals to crazy variegations.

To knit the Escherite Cowl you will need just 1 skein of either Tosh Sock or Tosh DK & a size US 5 (fingering version) or US 8 (DK version), 16” circular needle.

The pattern is available to purchase on Ravelry.

We continue to expand our in-stock Tosh collection, but are also excited to offer the option to special order any of the Tosh colors in any of their available bases! If there is a special Tosh color that you do not see listed on our site, please reach out to our customer service team & we will be happy to order it for you. Our contact email is [email protected].

Happy Knitting!
