This week we are taking a trip to the Pacific Northwest, home of American sourced, dyed & spun yarn; Brooklyn Tweed.
Our three featured knits include a classic cardigan, as well as two brand new knits showcasing their newest yarn Tones.
Shoji by Norah Gaughan is a modern design-driven cocoon cardigan knit in Brooklyn Tweed Arbor. The piece features a shawl collar, three-quarter length sleeves, and a garter hem deeply split into tails at the center back. The knitting is simplicity itself: a long rectangle of pebbled texture stitch folded and sewn into the final shape, with stitches picked up for the double-ribbed collar after assembly. Brilliant!
Tones is a new take on knitting with color! This new yarn is a worsted weight, 3-ply, woolen spun yarn that has been dyed in coordinated “tone pairs.” Fleece-dyed American Columbia wool is spun into light & dark shades, then overdyed to create the amazing palette of jewel & earth tones. It is ideal for colorwork, stripes, cables & textured stitches. There are so many ways to combine colors for knit accessories, garments & wraps.
The First Raglan Sweater by Jared Flood is a simple to knit pullover worked seamlessly from the top down, in the round. This is a great first sweater & a great opportunity to knit with Tones. The pattern also has instructions for a cheerful striped version.
Sparkwood by Lis Smith is a cozy cabled hat that offers incredible warmth & weightless breathability. Thick blocks of honeycomb cables are punctuated by bands of single knot ropes, adding elasticity and interest to this fishermen’s classic. The pattern has instructions for a beanie or classic watchcap. Add fun to the watchcap brim by playing with Tones duotone shades for a harmonious color pairing.

Happy Knitting!
