Rainier is worked in the round from the bottom up. The sleeves cuffs and hem begin with a long tail tubular cast on, and then a 1-by-1 ribbing is worked. Colorwork adorns the bottom of the sleeves and sweater body.

After the sleeves and body are complete, the pieces are joined to work the yoke. Raglan decreases shape the yoke, and then short rows are worked to raise the back neck. A colorwork pattern with integrated decreases is worked, and then a deep ribbed turtleneck finished with a tubular bind off completes the sweater. Pay careful attention to the size you are knitting when working the sleeve and yoke charts; different charts are given depending on the size to be worked.

YARN
Kelbourne Woolens Scout (100% wool; 274 yds/100 gm skein): gray heather 058 (MC), 3 (3, 4, 4, 5, 5, 6) skeins, and graphite heather 034 (CC), 2 (2, 3, 3, 4, 4, 5) skeins.

GAUGE
22 sts and 28 rnds = 4” (10 cm) in stranded colwork and stockinette stitch on larger needles, after blocking.

NEEDLES:
1 – 16” (40 cm) US 4 (3.5 mm) circular.
1 – 24”–36” (60–90 cm) US 4 (3.5 mm) circular.
1 – set US 4 (3.5 mm) DPNs.
1 – 16” (40 cm) US 6 (4 mm) circular.
1 – 24”–36” (60–90 cm) US 6 (4 mm) circular.
1 – set US 6 (4 mm) DPNs.
Check your gauge and adjust needle size(s) accordingly if necessary.

NOTIONS
4 stitch markers, tapestry needle, stitch holders or waste yarn, spare smaller circular needle for tubular bind off.
