Craft: Knitting

The Threadline Top is a cropped, boxy design that effortlessly blends structure and fluidity. Worked seamlessly from the bottom up, this two-color narrow-striped top features panels of garter stitch and broken rib creating a playful contrast in texture. Fluid shape changes are achieved through strategic increases and decreases, making the top visually dynamic while maintaining its relaxed fit. The hem uses a half-twisted rib and neat edges at the neckline and armholes are created with an I-Cord Bind-Off, making this top as polished as it is fun to knit.

Designed for The Fibre Co.’s Meadow, a beautiful blend of Merino wool, baby llama, silk, and linen, the Threadline Top offers a rustic yet refined look. Fabrics in Meadow provide the perfect lightweight, breathable garment with just the right amount of drape. Whether you layer your Threadline Top over a blouse or wear it on its own, this top will quickly become one of your favorites.

Construction notes

This cropped and boxy top is knitted from the bottom up, seamlessly in the round in small stripes using two colors. After working a half-twisted ribbed hem, the stitches are separated into groups to be worked in panels of garter and 3x1 broken rib stitch patterns. While working on these panels, decreases and increases within the panels create fluid shape changes to the panels and change the number of stitches in each section. The hem is worked in your MC, and then the remainder of the top is worked by alternating colors every two rows. From the underarms, the front and back are worked separately, including armhole and front neck shaping using decreases. The shoulder drop is shaped using German Short Rows across the upper back. A four-stitch I-Cord Bind-Off is used to finish the armholes and neckline.
