Lumme Sweater by Sari Nordlund
Cascade 220, colors 9465 Vashon Island & 8010 Natural
It is time to learn how to knit your first stranded colorwork sweater! This is the perfect Fall event for beginners who are excited to knit their first sweater with colorwork. We also welcome anyone who would like a refresher or just wants to join in & knit a fabulous pullover.
Join us every Monday, 9/9 - 11/25 from 6pm-8pm for the complimentary “My First Stranded Colorwork Sweater Help Along.”
Part class, part knit along & all fun, the Help Along is our version of a class where we will have plenty of knitting help, but with a relaxed structure so that you can knit at your own pace. We understand everyone has busy schedules, so the Help Along is structured with that in mind. Whether you start a few weeks in or have to miss a week- it is no problem. We will get you started from the beginning or picking up right where you left off.
The sweater we will be teaching in the HAL is the Lumme by Sari Nordlund. This beginner-friendly sweater has a simple, top down, in the round construction. The gorgeous stranded colorwork is introduced at the yoke & cuffs, giving the sweater a modern wearability. The pattern is sized up to a 63” finished bust. Sari knit her design in Cascade 220, but there are many worsted weight yarn options!
You may start at any session, but here is the agenda of what the instructor will be covering each week:
My First Stranded Colorwork Sweater Help Along
- Week 1: How to choose a yarn & high contrast colors, learn about color dominance & catching floats. Staff-assisted shopping time for yarn & needles. Cast-on & learn how to do a gauge swatch in the round!
- Week 2: How to measure gauge swatch, take body measurements & choose the perfect size. Discussion around chart reading with plenty of hands-on assistance.
- Week 3: Demonstration of correct colorwork tension & catching floats. Knit time!
