Craft: Knitting
The DANDELION WHIFF top is worked from the bottom up in a simple textured pattern reminiscent of a dandelion. The garment is worked in the round up to the armholes, then the front and back sections are continued separately in rows, working decreases for the armholes on each side. The shoulder section is worked in stockinette stitch; the back section ends with sloped shoulders and a straight neckline. The front section is worked somewhat longer, with a shallow neck opening; this shifts the top’s shoulder seams slightly to the back. Finally, the neck opening is finished with a narrow I-cord border.
Yarn
Pascuali Suave (100% organic cotton) Yardage 0.88 oz. ~ 177 yds (25 g ~ 162 m):
[ 3; 4; 4 ] [ 5; 5; 6 ] [ 7; 8; 9 ] x 25 g balls in color #50 Creme
Needles & notions
US 2.5 (3 mm) circular needle (for the ribbing)
US 4 (3.5 mm) circular needle
US 1 (2.5 mm) circular needle (for the neckline) or needle size required to get gauge
stitch markers
stitch holders or waste yarn for putting stitches on hold
tapestry needle and scissors
Note: Determine the length of the circular needle by considering the circumference of the section you are knitting (refer to the diagram for half diameter length). Always choose a cable that is slightly shorter than the required circumference. Alternatively,
you can use the Magic Loop method (see Techniques).
Gauge
Before you get started, you should make a swatch of about 5“ (12 cm) square. Cast on a couple of stitches more than indicated in the gauge. After blocking, your gauge should match the following:
Knitted in stockinette stitch with US 4 (3.5 mm) needle: 27 stitches x 38 rows = 4“ (10 cm) square
Tip: If you have counted more stitches, use a larger needle size. If you have counted fewer stitches, use a smaller needle size. Repeat swatch until you match the indicated gauge.
Note: In rounds you may tend to knit tighter than in rows! Check and measure time and again to make sure that the gauge is still correct.
Sizes
[ XS; S; M ] [ L; XL; XXL ] [ 3XL; 4XL; 5XL ]
The sizes correspond to the bust circumference as follows: [ XS; S; M ] [ L; XL; XXL ] [ 3XL; 4XL; 5XL ] = [ 30; 32; 35 ] [ 39; 42; 46 ] [ 50; 54; 58 ]” (= [ 76; 82; 90 ] [ 98; 107; 117 ] [ 127; 137; 147 ] cm) bust circumference (measured on the body).
The top has a normal fit.
Example: if your bust measurement is 35” (90 cm), make the top in size M; it will have a loose, comfortable fit with 2.4” (6 cm) of positive ease.
