Notes
Piece is worked back and forth without joining; a circular needle is used to accommodate the large number of stitches.
On RS rows, slip stitches purlwise with yarn in back; on WS rows, slip stitches purlwise with yarn in front.
Most written instructions and charts represent RS rows only. Work each WS row with the same color used in the previous RS row as foll: knit the stitches that were knit on the previous row, knit the increase stitches, and slip the slipped stitches purlwise wyif.
Use locking stitch markers to temporarily designate the placement of star motifs and cloud patterns (stratus, cirrus, and cumulus); add and remove as specified in written instructions or as shown in charts.
How to carry the unused color and make switching yarn colors less visible at the edge: At the beginning of every RS row, slip the first stitch purlwise. Bring the yarn to be carried to the front, between the first and second stitches. Slip the first stitch back to the left needle and bring the yarn to be carried to the right and in the back of the work. Keep it at the back while using the working color yarn to knit the first stitch. Proceed to work the remainder of the row as instructed.
