Rabbit Mittens by Arne & Carlos

Craft: Knitting

These mittens are knitted with two colours and are, after that, embroidered using duplicate stitch. These are very fun to make, and the result is a pair of stylish accessories that look like they have been painted with yarn!

Yarn

ROWAN Norwegian Wool. 50 grams, 125m/137yds

Yarn Amounts:

Color 1: One ball (50 grams) of Cloud Dancer #012

Color 2: One ball (50 grams) of Frost Grey #016

You will also need minimal amounts of the following colors for the details in duplicate
stitch on the head and the thumb.

Golden Nugget #012 (Mustard)

Peat #019 (Black)

Cappuccino #015 (Burgundy)

Large Mittens

We use a smaller size needle than what is usually recommended for Rowan’s
Norwegian Wool because we don’t want a floppy and loose knitted mitten.

Needles

A set of 5 dpns size 3.0 mm for the ribbing and 3.5 mm for stockinette /
U.S. 2 or 3 for the ribbing 

U.S. 4 for stockinette

Gauge

24 sts and 28 rows in stockinette on ndls 3.5 mm / U.S 4 = 10 cm /4 in cm

Adjust needle sizes to obtain correct gauge if necessary.

Finished Measurements of the Large Mittens

½ circumference (measure the width of the mitten when lying flat): 12.5 cm / 5 in

Total length: 32 cm / 12 ½ in

Small mittens

To make the smaller sized mittens, follow the same written pattern and charts as for
the large needles, but change the needles to obtain the gauge indicated below:

Gauge

27 sts and 31 rows in stockinette on needles 3 mm = 4 in / 10 cm.

Adjust needle sizes to obtain correct gauge if necessary.

Needles

A set of 5 dpns size 2.5 mm for ribbing and 3.0 mm for stockinette / U.S.
size 1 or 2 for ribbing

U.S. sizes 2 or 3 for stockinette

Finished Measurements of the Small Mittens

½ circumference (measure the width of the mitten when lying flat): 11 cm / 4 ¼ in

Total length: 28.5 cm / 11 ¼ in.
